What's a leap of faith to you? Have you ever taken one?
A leap of faith to me is making a major decision without knowing for sure if or how it will be accomplished, but knowing that you will find a way to make it happen.
Have I taken one? Sure. Coming to Seattle in 1999, hoping to get my foot in the door with a tech job before things went pear-shaped. We moved up from Olympia to live with my mother in Bremerton, and I would take the ferry across every day on my job hunt. Amazingly enough, it only took about a month to get a decent position, and I was employed in less dreamy positions during part of that time. Brooke and I found an apartment a few weeks later, and we've pretty much been geeks in Seattle ever since (with a few hiccups thanks to layoffs).
In the span of about 1 year I went from a bitter separation and a minimart job to a nice apartment and the beginnings of a tech career in Seattle. I wouldn't have been willing to make that move if not for Brooke's faith, encouragement, and occasional butt-kicking. We're married now, but I guess that seems pretty obvious.
It's sort of a knitting "doodle" that I put together between Sunday and Tuesday. I was just digging through the yarn basket, picked two colors, and started making something. I didn't know it was going to be a wallet until a few rows in. Brooke is pleased - she got two knitted gifts in one week.
This has a few firsts:
- First time knitting with two yarns at once - on the cover
- First time using crochet to join pieces
- First button!
I need to get a better camera. The camera phone is convenient, but not great for showing off.
I think I figured out what I'll use this blog for: finished projects. Knitting, programs, new web pages, whatever. So here's the first - a pair of green socks that I knitted for Brooke. That brings the sock pair count up to 3. I'm just talking about hand knitted socks. She owns many other socks that weren't made by me.
