What are five words you really like?
Submitted by purplesque.
pineapple, waffle, manganese, apparently, and wiggly.

What's your alma mater?

Umm ... I graduated from Central Kitsap Alternative High School in 1991. College? I took an Art Design I class in 1993 or so. I keep pondering a return to school but I'm always learning something new out here in the world!
What's your favorite appetizer to order at a restaurant?
Mozzarella sticks! No, buffalo wings! Wait, um...
I'm kind of a pig.
Happy Earth Day! What are some of your favorite ways to reduce, reuse and recycle?
I ride the bus to work and back every day. My wife walks to work and back. We live in a 500 square foot apartment, which must save on heating costs. As each light bulb in our home dies, it gets replaced by an energy saver bulb instead. We wash our laundry on "cold gentle", and dry it on "tumble dry low".
We recycle, but it's illegal not to in Seattle. We love our filtered water, but we use a simple Brita filter and reuse all of our water bottles.
We don't even own a car, but that's due to circumstance more than anything else.

Oh, this one is easy.
"All you need in this life is ignorance and confidence, and then success is sure." - Mark Twain
I have lived my life by this quote, and it has worked very well for me.

I kind of enjoy washing the dishes, as long as we didn't cook too much that night.
Taking the garbage out - that's my least favorite.
If you could write like one fiction author, who would it be?
Submitted by Marilyn.
My first impulse would be Isaac Asimov. His stuff is fun to read and pulls together a whole tapestry of a universe. I had to think about it for another second, though, and I would say Ray Bradbury. I think his stuff has aged very well, and is still interesting to read. He emphasized the human (or alien) aspects in his story, leaving the sci-fi as more of a backdrop for examining characters. I like that.
Ursula K. LeGuin would be a good choice, too.

Ever run for office? (School, club, organization, politics, etc.) Did you get elected?
I've never run for office. I want to be the power behind the throne, like Rasputin, or Dick Cheney, or Oprah.
What's a leap of faith to you? Have you ever taken one?
A leap of faith to me is making a major decision without knowing for sure if or how it will be accomplished, but knowing that you will find a way to make it happen.
Have I taken one? Sure. Coming to Seattle in 1999, hoping to get my foot in the door with a tech job before things went pear-shaped. We moved up from Olympia to live with my mother in Bremerton, and I would take the ferry across every day on my job hunt. Amazingly enough, it only took about a month to get a decent position, and I was employed in less dreamy positions during part of that time. Brooke and I found an apartment a few weeks later, and we've pretty much been geeks in Seattle ever since (with a few hiccups thanks to layoffs).
In the span of about 1 year I went from a bitter separation and a minimart job to a nice apartment and the beginnings of a tech career in Seattle. I wouldn't have been willing to make that move if not for Brooke's faith, encouragement, and occasional butt-kicking. We're married now, but I guess that seems pretty obvious.
