I have a blogging problem. It used to be that I didn't care about blogging and was content with static content for everything. Things are different now. I have probably 4 or 5 poorly maintained blogs. And when I tackle a new Web site, one of my first thoughts is whether it will fit into a blog format.
The church site is the first one which really would fit into that style, so I'm grabbing WordPress. Why WordPress? It's nice looking, easy to use, and very easy to install on the server that hosts greenlakeumc.org. Yes, Ruby is sexy, Python is clean, and Perl is familiar. But PHP is everywhere. When I move on to a new neighborhood it will probably be easier to find a WordPress/PHP developer with the spare time to poke at the church site. And for now it looks like WordPress provides the features (or plugins) that I think would be useful for development on the site.
I spent most of today playing with new themes for my development copy of the blog. I also copied some of the static site content into WordPress Pages. It's probably good enough to make live right now, but there are a few more tweaks I'd like to make. The bloggy version of the church site will still need some new features, but even a minimal amount of improvement is good.
I just wanted to let folks know what I was up to.
